Dear Friends of the Conservancy,

As we approach the end of 2018, I want to share some of our recent successes and thank you for your support throughout this dynamic and exciting year. Thanks to your donations and grants we have created and installed interpretive signage for self-guided tours and constructed walk-through aviaries, bringing visitors into closer contact with the birds for a full immersion experience.

Your support helps to make our environmental education programs a reality for students not only in Connecticut, but also in New York. Through distance learning we are reaching students with our living classroom throughout the US and Canada. In September, we hired a Manager of Education, Colleen Peters. Colleen has her PhD in Environmental Science, and we are looking forward to her leadership as she takes our environmental education programming in new and interesting directions. In 2019, our priorities will include continuing to expand our educational outreach to interact with a wider demographic, especially underserved children, adults, pre-school children and seniors, on-site, offsite and in the classroom.

In the coming year, we will be building an innovative water conservation system. This is an ambitious and novel project, and we hope to significantly reduce our need for water. The scope and cost of this project is substantial, exceeding $160,000. To date we have raised roughly three-quarters of the necessary funds through a generous grant from the Garmany Fund and individual donations. We will be breaking ground on the first phase of the project in November. Your help is needed to close the last $35,000, and we hope you will consider making a pledge to help us complete this important initiative.

At a time of stress for many species and wild places, your support to help spread our message of conservation action in classrooms and through field trips, public visitation and remote learning programs is increasingly needed. I hope you will join us as we continue our mission of environmental education by donating, or by purchasing a membership for yourself or as a gift in this holiday season. Thank you so much for your past support, and I look forward to seeing you at the Conservancy soon.

With all best wishes for a healthy and happy holiday season,
