Baer's Pochard


Scientific Name: Aythya baeri
Home Range: East Asia & Russia
Status: Critically Endangered
Distinguishing Characteristic: Males display a white eye while females display and brown or black eye

Niche: Insects, mollusks, shrimp, fish, and algae during the breeding season and aquatic plants and seeds during migrations and the winter season.

Scientists guestimate that there are less than 400 Baer's Pochard alive in the wild, Ripley protects 18 individuals at our facility.
