Please excuse the condition of our ponds.
Due to the recent drought, our ponds have lost a significant amount of water which has enabled the rapid growth of algae, now visible on the surface of the water. The drought has impacted every aspect of our work, as fresh clean water is critical to the health of our waterfowl and ongoing facility operations. In 2018 the Conservancy installed a bog system for four of our man-made ponds, along with a rain harvest storage system to alleviate our dependency on wells. Moving forward we will continue to look for solutions to lessen our dependency on wells, reduce the pond cleaning cycle, and, through natural, eco-friendly methods, provide a continuous supply of fresh water for some of the world’s rarest birds.
